2009 GRAND FINALS MEDIA RELEASE FROM NSWRU

Grand Final Day returns to Sydney Football Stadium

Sydney club Rugby’s biggest day will be staged at one of Australia’s great sporting venues with the 2009 Tooheys New Shute Shield Grand Final making a welcome return to the Sydney Football Stadium.

The six-team finals series will travel to venues in the four corners of Sydney – north to Pittwater Rugby Park, south to Forshaw Rugby Park, east to Woollahra Oval and west to Concord Oval – before Grand Final Day takes place on Sunday 27 September at the SFS.

“The 2009 season has been widely regarded as the highest in quality in many, many years and we’re expected an amazing Finals Series in September,” said NSWRU chief Executive Officer Jim L’Estrange.

“We’re taking the Elimination and Preliminary Finals all across Sydney, before culminating at the Sydney Football Stadium for Grand Final Day with all four senior grades decided on the last Sunday in September.”

The opening week of the Finals Series will pit third against sixth and fourth against fifth. The ensuing Preliminary Finals will see the top two teams come back from a week off to play the winners of the Elimination Semi-Finals.

The date and venues of these matches will be determined by the broadcaster, ABC TV, who continue to broadcast the Tooheys New Shute Shield live every weekend.

Colts Grand Finals will take place on Saturday 26 September at Concord Oval.

Tickets for weeks one and two of the Finals Series will be available at the gate.

Tickets for Tooheys New Shute Shield Grand Final Day will go on sale at 9:00am on Wednesday 2 September at www.ticketek.com.au.
